Grand Challenge Cup

Premier Open Eight Oars with Coxswain (O8+)

This is the top event for Open Eights, and has been competed for at every Regatta since 1839. While the rules have varied over the years, the 'Grand' has always been Premier, except in the Olympic Games year of 1908, to all established amateur clubs.

Remenham Challenge Cup

Premier Women's Eight Oars with Coxswain (W8+)

This is the top event for Women's Eights. After a trial period for invited crews, this new event was opened to all clubs in 2000, and became The Remenham Challenge Cup in 2002.

Stewards' Challenge Cup

Premier Open Four Oars (O4-)

This is the top event for Open Coxless Fours. It was Instituted in 1841, and is subject to the same rules as The Grand Challenge Cup. Until 1873 this event was for fours with coxswain.

W4-

Town Challenge Cup

Premier Women's Four Oars (W4-)

This event was inaugurated in 2017 for Women's Coxless Fours, in line with World Championship and Olympic practice, and with similar rules to The Remenham Challenge Cup.

Queen Mother Challenge Cup

Premier Open Quadruple Sculls (O4x)

This is the top event for Men's Quadruple Sculls. It was introduced in 1981 as the first event for this class of boat at the Regatta.

Princess Grace Challenge Cup

Premier Women's Quadruple Sculls (W4x)

This quadruple sculling event was introduced at the 2001 Regatta, with similar rules to The Remenham Challenge Cup. In 2003 it was named The Princess Grace Challenge Cup.

Silver Goblets & Nickalls' Challenge Cup

Premier Open Pair Oars (O2-)

The Pair-Oared Race was instituted in 1845 and in 1895 became The Silver Goblets & Nickalls' Challenge Cup. Steve Redgrave won the event in 1995 for a record seventh time, an achievement matched by Matthew Pinsent in 2003.

Premier Women's Pair Oars (W2-)

The Stewards introduced this new Premier event for Women's Pairs at the 2017 Regatta, intended for crews of the highest international standard.

Double Sculls Challenge Cup

Premier Open Double Sculls (O2x)

The Double Sculls Challenge Cup and medals were instituted in 1946. The same rules apply as for The Grand Challenge Cup.

Premier Women's Double Sculls (W2x)

The Stewards introduced this new Premier event for Women's Double Sculls at the 2017 Regatta.
Like the Women's Pairs, it is intended for crews of the highest standard.

Diamond Challenge Sculls

Premier Open Single Sculls (O1x)

This event is open to eligible members of any club, and was instituted in 1844. Since 1850, winners have received one of the famous Pineapple Cups to keep.

single women

Princess Royal Challenge Cup

Premier Women's Single Sculls (W1x)

This event is open to eligible members of any club, and was instituted in 1993. The winners receive a miniature crossed-sculls brooch to keep. This event has been won five times by both Maria Brandin of Sweden and Mirka Knapkova of the Czech Republic.
